Construction of the Borough of Longport’s Newest Water Well, Well #4, Completed in Advance of Memorial Day Weekend, Mayor and Commissioners Thank Residents for Cooperation and Understanding During Construction Phase

The Borough of Longport recently completed construction of Well #4 in anticipation of the community’s busy season beginning Memorial Day weekend. In order to meet that deadline, the Borough found it necessary at times to lift construction restrictions, allowing for work to continue late into the evening on several days. Mayor Nick Russo, Commissioner Jim Leeds and Commissioner Dan Lawler would like to thank residents for their cooperation and understanding during the construction of the new well.

“The completion of Well #4 before Memorial Day weekend would not have possible without the cooperation and understanding of the neighbors living near the well construction site,” said Mayor Nick Russo. “I would like to personally thank everyone for enduring late hours of construction noise and truck traffic.”

A new well was required to help meet the needs of the community. During the summer season, water demand greatly increases, necessitating the completion of the new well as the Borough’s most recent well was installed nearly 60 years ago.

“We know the construction of Well #4 was a challenging time for those who live near the new well site. We apologize for the inconvenience, especially on those days when construction continued late into the evening,” Borough Administrator Scott Porter said.

With the completion of the new well, residents will continue to have safe drinking water, adequate pressure for showering, and ample supply for emergencies such as fire suppression.
